Jose Hernandez
2026 “Current Of Change” Awardee (College of Biomedical Equipment Technology)
Curiosity has always driven Jose, from taking apart watches as a kid to building a career as a locksmith, he has always wanted to understand how things work.
Now, he is channeling that passion into healthcare technology. With support from Ohms Law Foundation, Jose is pursuing education and has already began his journey in imaging devices with Block Imaging.
Shanese Carter
2026 “Current Of Change” Awardee (Hinds Community College)
Shanese Carter’s path into Biomedical Equipment Technology grew from her experience working as a licensed esthetician in a clinical-style environment. While working with patients and maintaining medical-grade equipment, she developed an appreciation for the role technology plays in patient care and became increasingly curious about how that equipment worked, was maintained, and could be repaired.
Now studying Biomedical Equipment Technology at Hinds Community College, Shanese is building her skills in electronics, circuits, microcontrollers, and medical equipment systems. As a mother of two and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, she balances her education and family while working toward becoming a skilled and trusted Biomedical Equipment Technician.
With support from the Ohms Law Foundation, Shanese is continuing her education and preparing for a career where she can combine her healthcare background, technical skills, and passion for problem-solving to help keep critical medical equipment safe and reliable.
